Song Lyrics

"Wings" -BTS

I listen to it when I want when I'm frustrated and want motivation. When things don't work out the way I want them to, I get frustrated and stressed. There are times when I feel like giving up. This song is acts as a reminder for me to keep my head up and to continue forward because I am still "growing my wings", meaning that I am still learning and growing into my potential.

Take me to the sky
Put your hands up to the sky
Yeah, if you feelin’ the vibe
Uh, if you’re ready to fly
Yo, let’s do it
I remember my childhood
Because I had no big worries
I knew these small feathers would become wings
I knew the wings would make me fly
I had that faith
Along with laughter
(Like a bird)
I went on the road that I was told not to go
I did things I was told not to do
I wanted things I couldn’t want
I got hurt and hurt again
You can call me stupid
Then I’ll just smile
I don’t wanna succeed
By doing things I don’t wanna do
I’m pushing myself
Word
I believe in myself
My back hurting is for my wings to come out
I believe in you, even if things are bleak right now
The end will be great
Fly, fly up in the sky
Fly, fly get ’em up high
It’s the path you chose, dude don’t be scared
This is just the first flight
Take me to the sky
If I can fly
If I can run away forever
If my wings could fly
Piercing through the air that’s getting heavier
Flying, flying
Higher than higher than
Higher than the sky
Flying, flying
With my reddened wings
Spread spread spread my wings
La la la la la la, la la la la la la
Spread spread spread my wings
La la la la la la, la la la la la la
Wings are made to fly fly fly
Fly fly fly
If my wings could fly
Now I know
I’m breaking up with regretting with age
I made a decision
I will have unconditional trust
It’s time to be brave
I’m not afraid
Because I believe
Because I’m different from before
I won’t cry on my path
I won’t hang my head low
That is the sky
And I’ll be flying there, fly
Spread spread spread my wings
La la la la la la, la la la la la la
Spread spread spread my wings
La la la la la la, la la la la la la
Wings are made to fly fly fly
Fly fly fly
If my wings could

Favorite Book

My favorite book and series would definitely have to be the Percy Jackson series. Although I haven't read it recently, it is the one series that I was able to read without getting distracted. I am not too big of a fan on reading, but I remember that I would always be so engrossed in the storyline of the Percy Jackson series. Every time a new one came out, I would be so excited to go home to read it. I always loved this series because it deals with the supernatural. There are characters that you wouldn't see in real like including the Greek Gods. I would always imagine how my life would be like if I were to be one of the characters. I would always envy the characters because they all seemed so cool and strong willed. I always imagined how it would feel if I had the powers that these characters had. I like this series because it is a great escape from reality. It allows for me to use my imagination and live in my own world of super powers.

What is the single most important in-class lesson you learned in high school? What was your greatest academic challenge? Did this experience shape you in anyway?

The most important in-class lesson I learned in high school is to stay organized. I was able to learn this throughout the four years, but I think that junior year and second semester senior year taught me this lesson really well. It was junior year when I had to deal with field hockey stress and academic stress. During junior year, I was focused on getting recruited, so I would practice around ten to fifteen hours per week the entire school year. This was difficult to do because I also had school work, two AP classes, ASB, and SAT classes to manage. Therefore, learning this lesson was a huge challenge for me. Up until junior year, I played field hockey more casually and did not have as many academically challenging classes. I was often dejected and discouraged to do academic work because it was not as easy and more stressful than the two years prior and always felt the need to practice field hockey. Second semester senior year, I didn’t want to do work, but had much more work than the past three and a half years. Right now, I have five ongoing projects, a job, and field hockey to manage. It is through these experiences that I was able to learn about the importance of staying organized. This experience has definitely shaped me into a more responsible person. In middle school and the first two years of high school, I only had to worry about the little academic work I had and the sports practices I occasionally had. I am grateful for these experiences junior and senior year because I will definitely have to manage my time well in college since I want to double major and also play field hockey in college.

What would you say, is your most valuable possession? How did you acquire this possession? Why is it so meaningful?

My most valuable possession would be this bracelet that I own. Although I rarely wear it, I’d for sure have to say that it’s my most valuable possession because of the story behind it. It is a bracelet I got in Korea five years ago. When I was younger, I used to go to Korea every year, which gradually changed to every other year as I grew busier. However, after the summer before 8th grade, I haven’t been able to go back to Korea. I have many family members who I haven’t kept in touch with and seen in years. Every summer, I would be a little disappointed about not being able to go to Korea, but I was able to easily brush it off to the side because I was busy with field hockey and was having fun hanging out with my friends. It wasn’t until last summer when it hit me that I haven’t gone in a very long time; I began watching many Korean movies and television shows and listening to a variety of Korean music. Watching and listening to all these Korean related things seemed to be a way for me to live vicariously through someone. I also began reaching out to many of my relatives in Korea. I would say that since last summer, there hasn’t been a day where I haven’t thought about Korea. Therefore, this bracelet is one of my prized possessions because it is one thing that I still have from five years ago. I still remember buying it at a huge shopping mall two hours away from where I was staying with my friends. I also remember it breaking on the way back home, and my grandfather having to get it fixed. Although it may seem like a normal bracelet, it holds great meaning to me because it reminds me of the happy memories I had in Korea. I will be going to Korea in a couple of weeks, and I am beyond excited to make new memories.

Identify a person on this campus who has influenced you in a positive way. Think of a specific moment and describe an exchange that illustrates how s/he has has an impact on your life.

One person on campus who influenced me in a positive way is Ms. Dumas. Although she no longer works on campus, she was a counselor my freshman year. Starting freshman year, I did not know anyone new and did not know anything about Lynbrook. With the team, she helped me ease into high school. Although I started field hockey two months prior to tryouts, she believed in me and put me on varsity. I did not expect to make varsity, so this was a huge surprise for me. I did not realize until much later, but Ms. Dumas believing in me and selecting me to be on varsity would change my life and shape my high school life. I joined field hockey because I wanted to play another sport, aside from soccer, in high school. It was not until my first season of field hockey and soccer at Lynbrook when I decided that I wanted to focus more on field hockey than soccer. My first season is memorable because everyone was extremely encouraging and supportive. This impression of field hockey that the school team gave me motivated to continue practicing after the end of the season. Therefore, after my field hockey season, I reached out to Ms. Dumas who encouraged me to continue playing field hockey by signing up for the club field hockey team. After deciding to play school and club field hockey, I was able to find the one hobby which I never grew sick of and became a huge part of me throughout the past four years. It is because Ms. Dumas saw potential in me that I was motivated to continue practicing and improve so much as a player. If it weren’t for her decision to select me for the varsity team, I may never be as good of a player and I am now, and I may not be playing for four more years in college.
